About the species

The chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra) is one of Europe’s most agile and iconic mountain species. With sharp eyesight and an instinct to stay high above danger, it presents a true challenge for those who seek a real alpine adventure. Hunting chamois means immersing yourself in the breathtaking peaks of the Julian Alps – quiet, demanding, but unforgettable.

Key facts

  • Latin name: Rupicapra rupicapra
  • Trophy scoring: Horn length and circumference (CIC points)
  • Weight range: 15–30 kg
  • Habitat: High alpine slopes, cliffs, mountain meadows
  • Behavior: Extremely alert, moves in small groups
The hunt

The hunt takes place in the Slovenian Alps, right on the edge of Triglav National Park. Early mornings begin from a mountain hut, followed by ascent into the alpine terrain – either by foot or with local 4x4 support depending on the plan and fitness of the hunter. Most hunts are a full-day experience, but it’s also possible to wait in rocky saddles or on game trails if less physical strain is preferred. Every hunt is guided by licensed local professionals, with respect to both tradition and nature.

Lodging & meals

Accommodation is in a traditional alpine cabin close to the hunting area, or optionally in a nearby guesthouse with full comfort. Breakfast is served early, lunch is usually packed for the mountains, and after the hunt, we gather for a shared dinner and to toast the day’s success. Meals are flexible and can include your own brought food or arranged options.

What else you can hunt

Another chamois, (there is usually no time to hunt another animals, if you want so, we would need to make the hunt longer)

It was my first time hunting a bear and what better place to do it than in the Slovenian mountains. The evening high seat, which felt more like a small lodge, was silent and full of tension. But when the bear finally appeared, everything slowed down. I focused, took a deep breath, and made a clean shot.
It was a powerful moment and then relief, as the bear went down within 30 meters. Huge thanks to the GT Hunting team for another perfect trip, excellent service, and an unforgettable experience.
